Vegas

It's been a while. Brief re-cap of the highpoints.

Thanksgiving Weekend found the Flame and I in Vegas with several friends.

Vegas really is a wierd and wacky town. Besides the wedding, the highlight of the trip was eating at Lotus of Siam. The food was truly incredible and definitely worth a trip off of the Strip for dinner. I'll have to plan a trip to the Phnom Penh in Chinatown to see who comes out on top. We encouraged our waiter to choose for us with an emphasis on the unusual and he delivered.

Starters comprised a spicy squid salad, and a second salad of deep-fried soft shell crab on a bed of apples, cabbage and greens. Fabulous interplay of flavour and texture in both.

Mains were scallops in a cognac-curry sauce finished with a hint of coconut, charbroiled beef topped with house-made tamarind sauce and fried dry chilies, and drunken noodle sea bass. Imagine the lightest possible coating on sea bass that has been deep fried, on wide, soft, fresh rice noodles.

Dessert was sticky white rice with frozen coconut cream and fresh sliced mango. We waddled back to the monorail and called it a day.

Much gawking and some gambling followed by a restful stop-over in Seattle visiting good friends, some blogless, capped off the weekend.

Cache Creek and Socktober updates to follow with pictures of Lisa S's fabulous Joseph's Coat in Merino.
