No cable, no pictures

OK, it's not like there would be anything interesting to take pictures of right now either.

I'm still knitting that afghan edging (argh). On strip 3 of 4, about 17 repeats left. (Boring).

I started and ripped a sock because the yarn I chose was too thin and too dark for the pattern. Dark green, too thin yarn does not make for attractive gansey patterned socks. I've re-started the pattern in that nice pink yarn I was using for the doomed wedding shawl.

I've resisted starting the fir cone shawl as I really want the wedding afghan of my plate. So the weekend goals are : get going on the afghan, find the camera-computer cable.

The good news is I have a new blog to read and it's officially sweater weather in Vancouver.

Free (partial) socks

I started a pair of socks a long time ago and they don't fit me, or the Flame. If you'd like to finish them, all I ask is that you mail the needles back to me afterwards.

Sock stats:

Toe-up with a distinct right and left foot
2mm bamboo needles
10 stitches per inch
80 stitches for the foot
I've completed about 6 - 6.5" on each foot

Details

The afghan is for the my dear friend Craig's mother and her new husband James. A lovelier pair of people you couldn't hope to meet. The pattern is from an old, old McCall's - threadbare and worn but if I ever dig through my vintage mags again, I'll offer it up to a reader. I believe that it can also be found in one of their slightly scary "what were they thinking" 80's Christmas compilations. The yarn is France's (and thus Canada's when we were still importing a lot of Pingouin - oh wait, I just dated the yarn and the project) answer to Encore - Le Yarn 3 - an 80/20 blend of acrylic and wool that should launder nicely.

I'm off to Knit & Pearl tonight where I will try not to start this :

No promises but I'll need to cast on 386 stitches so maybe that will stall me.

Giving a Little

Hyrna Hergobar has been getting some attention recently in the knitblog world and in light of that I am donating my grey wool version with beads along the crochet edge to Give a Little.

Good luck!

Current projects

It is time for me to re-focus and figure out what I'm knitting. I'd really like to have all of these done by the end of the month.

WIPs for now

1. Wedding afghan - 15 squares knit, 15 squares sewn together, 33 border repeats to go, and 4 border pieces to sew up. Pictures forthcoming.

2. Double Crossing Diamonds by Tara Jon Manning from Men in Knits. Dark grey superwash for the tall and handsome one in my life.

3. Jojo for baby Oliver using DGB Confetti and Sisu - greys and turquoise and cream.

Update

Susan and Margene have run with Stephanie's great idea and started Give a Little.

There are many worthy organizations out there and I'm not advocating any one over another. If you can give, pick as your heart tells you.
