Thicker is better

If not better, certainly more satisfying when you get up from the spinning wheel at the end of an evening. I guess-timate that the Joseph's Coat took about 25 hours to spin, by contrast, I got nearly 200 yds of Corriedale spun and plied in an evening. This is only about 70 grams, so I have 130 grams left. Decisions, decisions - keep spinning this about worsted weight, or spin the rest of it laceweight for a matching hat/shawl set?

Joseph's Coat

This is about 2 bobbins full. I'm still well short of finishing off my 8 ozs and I'm guessing I've got about 1000 yds after merino "sproing" from washing. I think I'll finish up at about 1500 yds. It's coming out about fingering weight so I'll welcome any ideas or suggestions.

Weekends

Random bits from the last several weeks.

I've been blessed by visits with good friends. A couple of weeks ago, The Fiber Freak came North for a visit and spoilt us with their company and Krispy Kreme donuts! I'm waiting to see what happens with the gorgeous merino/qiviut TFF was spinning.


Last weekend saw the beginning of the first really cold weather and my urge to turn on the oven came back. Popeye would have been pleased with this pie but I think I'll pitch the crescent rolls for phyllo next time.



Holly and Critterboy came up for an early weekend and our time together can be summed up as yarn and sushi with a little tomfoolery thrown in.



I've got something exciting to share just as soon as I get it off the wheel so back to the Tina II for me.

Colour details

Jen was asking for more details so let's see what I can re-call.

6 ozs of merino top, scoured in orvus, rinsed.
Wash-fast acid dyes - magenta, cobalt blue, yellow made up in 1% DOS solutions
Plastic beer cups.

Now, envision me mixing 5 separate colours, lime green, blue, violet, red and orange, and then pouring these colours onto the roving (laid out on plastic wrap) while trying not to dye the table underneath. Some quiet cursing, and the fibre is wrapped up in the plastic wrap, deposited on the vegetable steamer in the crock pot and steamed for a couple of hours.

I'll be doing this soon with some alpaca/silk/merino blend so will try to take pictures and do a better job of documenting.

Of course, she could come up the I-5 for a dye-day...

Colour

It's cold and grey up here in the PNWet so I engineered a little colour therapy for myself. This is a practice run for my friend Melanie who's a great cheer-leader.

Raspberry Hyrna

I just can't get enough of knitting this shawl. My grey Hyrna has gone to live with Emily the knittingchemist and I hope they have a lovely time together.

A while back, I was bouncing around the idea of trying this pattern out in a yarn heavier than the recommended lace-weight. The announcement came that my work had decided to do an in-house auction this year to raise money for the United Way and somewhere between the two I lost my mind and decided to knit a Raspberry Hyrna with beads. I'm really happy with the size and will definitely be doing another one at some point for myself.



Project stats :

Just over 125 grams of Elann's baby silk in raspberry heather (I went into the 6th ball 2/3rds of the way through the crochet bind-off)
4.5mm addi needles and about 130 5/0 triangle beads.

I'm making some progress on the Conwy socks but it's slow going as most of my private knitting time has been taken up by (shhh) holiday knitting for someone slightly taller than 5'2".
